EDENBRIDGE 2010.

Again this year the Southern Counties Historic Vehicles Preservation Trust are inviting owners of preserved Shelvoke & Drewry vehicles to join them at their annual rally for an SD Gathering. This will be held on the weekend of 19th and 20th June at Edenbridge, Kent. Further details will appear in our next issue.

Vintage Roadscene Magazine                     Issue 123 February 2010

In the first of four articles Malcolm Bates, former Shelvoke & Drewry Publicity Manager, writes about "The Forgotten Public Service Vehicles"  in the February 2010 issue of Roadscene.

As we might expect the article has a strong bias towards S&D. Of the ten photographs with the article no less than six relate to the Company, and include one three quarter page photo and one full page one. There is good coverage of the Fore & Aft tipper.

Malcolm uses his trademark enthusiastic journalistic style and I think many readers will want to follow this series. Vintage Roadscene is now published by Ian Allen Publishing Ltd. on the third Friday of the month previous to cover date.

Vintage Roadscene Magazine                     Issue 124 March 2010

In the March issue which is ON SALE NOW Malcolm tells of the arrival of the Pakamatic in response to the need for greater compaction of refuse. The article includes a fine photo of the restored "1922" Freighter alongside a 'TY' Revopak. It's good to see S&D reported in this way.

A Maltese Mystery.

When Liam Millar from Renfrewshire, Scotland, visited Malta recently he found the S&D 'N' type pictured on the left under repair at Richies Garage near Zejtun. The vehicle had been involved in an accident. Liam noticed that the vehicle had three windscreen wipers and he wondered why these were specified. Can anyone help with an answer for Liam, please?

In the meantime I discovered an archive photo from Richies Garage that had been copied and sent to me by Jaap Mikkers, which shows the same vehicle at an earlier time. [Above right.] There are still a considerable number of S&D's operating in Malta.
