NEWS OF EXISTING VEHICLES.
A 1937 Latil Traulier built by S&D that has lain in pieces for many years in a garage in Worthing has been rescued for restoration by Charlie Lemon. The tractor unit saw service with the London Midland & Scottish Railway and was once in the national collection at Clapham Museum.
The 1935 Freighter ex-Epsom & Ewell Reg No. DPF 432 that was for many years at the East Anglia Transport Museum is now in the safekeeping of Russell Cook near Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Both these owners have promised to keep me informed of the progress of restoration.
Michael Cooper put up for sale his ex-BP tanker Reg No. GJD 121 N an NN from 1974 which he had restored and fitted with a Derby type body.

I understand that it has been purchased for promotional purposes by McCreath Taylor & Co. Ltd of Lisburn, Northern Ireland.
McCreath Taylor & Co Ltd established a depot in Belfast in 1925 and around that time became agents for Shelvoke & Drewry. For the last 30 years they have operated from purpose-built premises in Lisburn.
A photo of this vehicle was used in an article in "Best of British" magazine in November 2009. The article "Letter from the Deepings" looked back to a simpler age when less refuse was thrown away and refuse vehicles were of the simple Chelsea type. My thanks to Chris Heaps for a cutting from "Best of British."
In its place Michael has purchased Ted Hoole's 'W' type pictured below. 78 DNK dates from 1958 and Ted has owned the vehicle since 1977.

Originally in service with Ketton R.D.C. the'W' type has been a popular feature at fairs and rallies in the Sheffield area, since the ex-railway box van body housed a fair ground organ. Ted felt it was now time for the vehicle to find a new home, but says it will be greatly missed. It is to his credit that this example of S&D craftsmanship has survived so well.
Terry Prince sent in the following report on his fleet of three SD SPV Fire Appliances:-
YHV 187 T - Is in the body shop in Essex and has been since October, we hope to complete the welding on the cab by the end of January. All the panelling has been replaced, the doors have been rebuilt, the guttering replaced, and also replaced a lot of metal around the steps. I have posted progress photo's on flickr.com.
GYW 628 W - The ex London's Burning machine was out on the 14th of November and will be seen in the new series of 'Ashes to Ashes' on TV this year. It was a nervy trip taking the vehicle out after 3 years in the barn but she came through 2 days and 180 miles with no problems.
GYW 631 W - Has seen little progress however a new brake chamber has been fitted and I now have all the parts made to refit the exhaust.
